Welcome to The People’s Forum! This newsletter has traditionally been for members of our Food Sovereignty Shares Program who receive bi-weekly shares of produce from Neighborhood Foods (NF) Farm. However, we’re now moving it online for anyone who visits the site to enjoy. Whether you are a member of the Food Sovereignty Shares Program, or a passerby, this newsletter is a great way to learn more about Neighborhood Land Power Project’s Food Sovereignty work!

Whose Paul Robeson and why does he have tomato named after him? Paul Robeson was a giant figure in the 20th century. In addition to being a very popular singer and actor, he was an athlete, lawyer and political activist who fought for the rights of Black and working-class people in the US and worldwide. Robeson also has a special tie to Philadelphia as he spent the last decade of his life living with his sister in West Philly, not far from NF Farm. The house they lived in is kept as a house and museum that honors the Robeson family’s history and legacy.

The Paul Robeson Tomato is an heirloom tomato (meaning the seeds have been grown for more than 50 years) that was developed and named after Robeson to honor his work and legacy.
